Layout History

Again I changed my mind when I looked at Willich. I found I didn't like the brick structures in the factory yard so I discarded them.
Instead I gave it a new look based on the fictive North American town Crystal Creek. Some small scale coal mining is going on there. A small narrow gauge raiload is used to transfer coal and supplies between mines and a standard gauge railroad.
This incarnation of the layout was finally finished years after the first piece of track had been laid on a piece of wood.

This is the more scenic area of the layout. It is separated from the town area by a scenic divider.

Scenic area

The small farm on the left is built from a BTS kit, like actually several others of the structures on this layout. The garden is highly detailed with items from the German company Noch.

Farm

These sheds were built from different kits from Grandt Line and Bemo. The outhouse is a cardboard model. The log fence was scratchbuilt from small wood dowels and balsa wood strips.

Sheds on a Siding

This is the small town built on the other half of the layout.

Crystal Creek Town

The structures for the engine service area were scratchbuilt. The shed was constructed from a Thomas A. Yorke scale drawing. Watertower and diesel tank are freelanced using bits and pieces lying around.

Engine Service

The coal tipple and sheds accompanying it were built from different sources. Except for the tipple styrene construction was used.
