A similar trackplan won a Honorable Mention in a Model Railroader contest. I moved the setting from the Maine coast to my Rocky Mountain Mining area and stretched the layout a bit.
The area extending into the room would allow for some interesting wharf scenes. As
it would be possible to view everything from all sides, you could showcase
some great structures here.
The trackage in the switchback area is just a first rough sketch. Before
building it a bit more finetuning would be necessary. Especially the runaround track
should be fit to the favorite train lengths. For me, they are much to long and could be
shortened to make room for more scenery.
