Kitsault Mining District

During the design phase for this plan, I couldn't decide on the gauge to model in the future. The result is a two-level diorama with one gauge (HOn30) on the upper level, and another one (HOn3) on the lower.

The area to the left, where the tracks form an 'X' is a reloading trestle , where ore from cars on the upper level is chuted into gondolas on the lower. The inspiration came from the Lenora Mount Sicker Railway ( also see the July/August '84 Gazette pp. 22 ). To the right the lower track enters a tunnel and leaves the layout to some kind of staging area. While the lower 'wide gauge' trackage is more suitable for some showcasing of models a little operation is possible on the upper level.

While it doesn't offer much space for structures etc. this diorama would allow for some interesting scenery. Due to the small size, it could as well be built in other scale/gauge combinations, especially Sn3/Sn2 or Sn20 come to my mind. Overall depth would probably be too much for O scale, but why not ?
